Cheapest Windows VPS

Providers charge for Windows in one of two ways. VPSBG and Vultr add a license fee to their normal plans: VPSBG €5.00 (about $5.43) per vCPU a month and Vultr $16.00 per vCPU a month. A fee per core grows with the plan: VPSBG Cloud VPS 48 vCPU / 192 GB with 48 vCPU costs $1956.52 a month with Linux and $2217.16 with Windows. UltaHost, Hostwinds, AWS Lightsail, IONOS, Fasthosts, RackNerd, ScalaHosting and Liquid Web sell Windows as separate plans with their own price.

On the 60 plans where we know the Linux price of the same plan at the same provider (same vCPU, RAM and billing term), Windows costs a median of $38.00 a month more. On the smallest plan we can compare at each provider:

• VPSBG, 1 vCPU and 2 GB: $16.30 with Linux, $21.73 with Windows, so $5.43 more
• AWS Lightsail, 2 vCPU and 2 GB: $12.00 with Linux (Lightsail 2 GB), $22.00 with Windows, so $10.00 more
• IONOS, 2 vCPU and 4 GB: $11.75 with Linux (VPS M+), $22.75 with Windows, so $11.00 more
• Hostwinds, 1 vCPU and 2 GB: $9.99 with Linux (Managed VPS 2GB RAM 1CPU), $21.99 with Windows, so $12.00 more
• Vultr, 1 vCPU and 2 GB: $12.00 with Linux, $28.00 with Windows, so $16.00 more
• ScalaHosting, 2 vCPU and 4 GB: $19.95 with Linux (Config #1), $39.95 with Windows, so $20.00 more

Windows also needs more memory than a small Linux server. Microsoft lists 2 GB of RAM as the minimum for Windows Server with the Desktop Experience, and recommends 4 GB for Windows Server 2025 (Microsoft's hardware requirements, checked on November 3, 2026). That is why this page only ranks plans with at least 2 GB. Smaller Windows plans exist: AWS Lightsail Windows 512 MB at $9.50 a month (billed monthly), AWS Lightsail Windows 1 GB at $14.00 a month (billed monthly) and Hostwinds Unmanaged Windows 1 GB at $16.99 a month (billed monthly).

These providers also sell Windows VPS, but we couldn't confirm a current Windows price on their own site, so they aren't in the tables above.
